Top Career Opportunities - A career in SEO Copy Writing

by John Alexander

When considering any career change, you want something that suits you and so let's briefly discuss how certain opportunities with respect to copy writing and writing have changed over recent years. Not only have they changed but in some cases there are huge shifts from the traditional to what's happening now. The demand for well written content is greater than ever before. This is all good news business opportunity wise but even the way the writer has traditionally worked is now changed from the traditional. Typically where a writer would send a query letter by mail and get replies and assignments by mail, now you have e-mail correspondence which can expedite communications faster than ever before.

Let's talk about a few opportunities where you can choose more flexibility in what's right for you as well as the monetary gain too. The challenge with any new business is that it can, in fact be totally new to you. Some people never really
give their thoughts to something new and different so they may never give themselves that starting chance they need. Others, may need to develop certain skills and therefore don't feel qualified to even consider the possibilities of
certain careers. My advice is that you need to give yourself a chance.
I also think a lot has to do with having the right attitude about yourself and possessing a measure of assurance and self confidence.

When considering the any of following career ideas and topics, the one thing that has not changed (and never will change is the importance of finding the kind of work that you are truly enthusiastic about. This is extremely
important and especially if you are starting up a new business of your own. Some people look at careers based on how much salary they can earn, which certainly makes sense. But you also want to choose your career wisely so you enjoy your work and feel that sense of purpose. Now is not the time to get trapped into just one more thing that you DON'T enjoy doing. Far to many people are stuck doing work they don't enjoy doing, but then with today's economy you also need to be thankful for the work you do get. But when I say that it's important to do something you enjoy, I'm referring to the times when you are choosing a new career and you have the power of choice.

Why consider a writing career?

In our workshops, we teach our students skills in the different styles of writing. It's not just all search engine optimization but there are a variety of skills ranging from SEO to writing sales copy or content that compels your visitors to take action. Then there is writing in quite a different style for working with news. There is content writing for working in general with Web pages. In all of these classes, I am always impressed by the work the students create in general but, especially by the work of the students who say they can't write or don't believe they can write. (And many times,) I think they are often surprised themselves with the quality of their work. With a little instruction and encouragement they learn that the old "I have writers block" theory is nearly always just an excuse.

What types of writing opportunities exist now with the coming of the Internet that did not exist before?

People have created new careers involving areas that include:

  • Blogging services

  • SEO copy writing

  • sales copy writing

  • search engine marketing

  • working with real world news

  • offering keyword research services

  • offering user " search behavior" research

  • offering writing services connected with semantics

  • assisting others to create their own products

  • writing manuals

  • writing e-books

  • offering people editorial type or review services

When choosing a new business career - there are
more opportunities for good writers - than ever before.
2009 is the "year of the writer."

Plus there are many other writing trends too, wherever good writing is required.

Where is the demand for good writing these days? That's the whole point. Think about it. Good writing is required everywhere today and opportunities abound more than ever, for those who take their time to build their skills in very specific particular areas. Some will start entire careers just in a specific area such as Blogging or offering SEO services.

Thinking back to my start:

I did not start out writing. I would have been the first one to say back in my career transition that I can't write.

I had spent 24 years in a totally unrelated career (the gas and propane industry.) But we all start somewhere. After I originally started up my own business thinking that I would be a Web designer, I became fascinated with helping people to increase their visibility online as well as their profits. As I gained early skills, I found the area that I most enjoyed was keyword research and studying user behavior online.

My service began coming in much higher demand as I focused on my niche and having a goal of helping the business owner to turn their Web site into something profitable.

We can often start out one way and then along the road our directions are fine tuned to really excel within a niche. If you are looking for a new career, give writing your full attention. Don't rule it out. Instead, do something to make a start.

"If one advances confidently in the direction of their dreams, and endeavors to live the life which they have imagined, they will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

     Quote from Henry David Thoreau,
---- (1817-1862) American philosopher, poet, and environmental scientist -----

Also remember that
if you're truly launching into any new career and your intention is to be unique and different, you're obviously going to reach a number of discouraging challenges along the way. But the important thing is that you don't ever give up. Get started, give yourself the best advantages but keep on going.

-----------------

"Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Your decision to be, have and do something out of the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else."

( 1944 - present ) Brian Tracy -
Canadian self- help author on leadership, sales, managerial effectiveness, and business strategy.

 Albert Einstein once stated:

"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer."

(1879 - 1955) Albert Einstein - Jewish, German-born theoretical physicist
NOTE: In 1999 Time magazine named Einstein the "Person of the Century," and in the words of a biographer, "to the scientifically literate and the public at large, Einstein is synonymous with genius.
